Falling Down on the Job

I’ve been ignoring this site, and I feel bad about it, but it’s been for good reason.  I’ve been very busy with work related activities, including a last minute request for help that took me away from my office for two days.  Following that emergency, I took off for Philadelphia to attend the sWE16 conference (Society of Women Engineers).  This was my second time attending, and I’m still enjoying it!

In the meantime, I have a couple deadlines for personal crafts, namely a butterfly and a ladybug.  These two stuffed animals are being made for that coworker I’m sure I mentioned in the last post.  I’m mostly happy with how the butterfly has turned out, though she really needs a mouth.  And maybe feelers.

The ladybug is taking me a bit longer.  The first version ended up being a draft.  I was a bit irritated by that, but it was for the best.  My second go around of this pattern is turning out a LOT better than the first.

I should really learn to build in time for my projects for that first draft effort.

I’m now at a point with the ladybug where I’m working on giving her a mouth.  The pattern has an embroidered heart for lips, with lines for smiles.  If I had thought about it before, I would have used my nifty machine to create said heart.  However, I didn’t think about it, and I don’t have enough time or material to create a third version of this animal.  Therefore, I’ve taken the last few days figuring out the best way to hand embroider a heart that can be used for the lips.  The lines are just not going to happen.  Sorry.

I have not been taking pictures of the butterfly or the ladybug, mainly because those have been troublesome, and I’ve been distracted with trying to get them to work.  However, I will post pictures of the final products when they’re done!

MM has also asked that I add a stuffed bear to my list of things to get done before Sunday.  You’ll remember those three Riviera Handbags that I  made for our foreign coworkers earlier this year.  One of those coworkers has moved with her family to another country, and her son is turning 2 on Monday.  So, I’m going to create a cute little teddy bear that I can ship to her this weekend.  There’s no way that it’ll get there in time for his birthday, but I can try!

I haven’t figured out what, if anything, I’ll be making for Christmas gifts, and that’s a bad idea, since I have very little time to get things done.  I’m sort of relying on inspiration to hit me, but I really hope it hits soon.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

More later!
