Getting Motivated!

Last week, T, my mother, requested a mother/daughter day!  I met her for some shopping – both clothing and fabric, as my brother requested a floor pillow for B, my nephew.  He’s been using their dog’s bed to lounge in on the floor, and while cute, might not work for his new bedroom.

T found a picture of a dog bed that we were going to use as a template, but once we got to the fabric store, we ended up designing our own, constituting of four pillow forms and duck canvas.  We also found an outdoor fabric in a pattern that matched both of the duck canvas colors, and just happened to go along with his new room colors!

So, with all the materials in hand, we went straight down to the craft room, and got to work getting the thing designed, coming up with measurements, really screwing up math, and everything else that goes into making something.  Unfortunately for the two of us, math was being difficult with us.  Many mistakes were made!  Luckily, nothing that took us terribly long to rectify.

Saturday evening we took a break from all the sewing and cutting to have dinner.  MM made us both pretty strong drinks, which meant we were done in the craft room for the evening!!

Sunday morning we headed down to the craft room and that’s when the bulk of the sewing commenced, putting panels together, determining how to get the three support cushion pockets attached to each other, and adding the piping.  We struggled a bit, though, with figuring out how to make the pillows removable, and adding a base for the main floor part of the cushion.  And, by the time we got to this point, it was early afternoon.  Lunch brought us out of the craft room, and we decided to break.  T needed to get home, so she took everything we’d gotten done, and got it finished at home!

Here’s the finished product:

When T came home from work on Monday, she found this:

So, I guess we now know that if B doesn’t it, animals do!

All of this has led to me working in the craft room on the satchel that I promised MM for our upcoming trip to France next month.  I’ve gotten it started, and hope to finish it this weekend.

How’s that for getting motivated!
