Ciao, Roma!

MM and I have returned from our two week vacation to Italy, which included Rome, Sorrento, and a little time in Positano.  I don’t have anything for you by way of pictures or tips or tricks or anything yet.  But I do have ideas, and I’m probably going to be pulling MM in on it as well, for his perspective.

We had a great time, despite the rainy weather (rain every day!), eating our way through Rome, and explore a new city.  I tried new things that I otherwise would not.  I’ve never had artichoke, outside of Spinach and Artichoke Dip, so I worked up the nerve to try it for the first time.  🙂  There are actually two types of Roman prepared artichokes – Roman and Roman Jewish.  I had the Roman Jewish variety, and enjoyed it quite a bit.  I feel like I should try to figure out how to make it myself!

In addition to that particular dish, MM talked me into trying octopus (I love calamari, so this shouldn’t have been terribly difficult.  It’s just weird…) while in Sorrento, and I went all in with the seafood that meal with a seafood risotto.  It was good, but I learned, once again, that I’m not a fan of shrimp with their heads still attached!  Nor am I a fan of clams or mussels.

While I enjoy the Cacio e Pepe with pasta, I found a different pasta dish that I’ll be having more of in the future!  Pomodora e Basilico – tomato and basil!  I have no idea why I haven’t tried this sauce before, but I’m a great fan now.  I’m going to have to see if my Italian cookbook has a recipe for this one.  But I’m kind of wondering if I’ll be able to make something as good as what I had there.  After all, we are talking about Italian tomatoes…  🙂

Anyway, it’s mid-morning here the day after our flight home, and I’m wide awake.  MM headed to the grocery store to get the bare essentials for the morning, and laundry has been started.  We’re taking it easy today, since somewhere around 2 PM, we’ll both crash, and crash hard.  We have a couple more days of vacation, during which we’ll lay low, and then head back into the office for a few weeks of relative calm until we head out for more travel!

Stay tuned for travel pages!
