Here lies the remains of a dear one who was with us for over a decade, providing MM and I with the means to feed ourselves. You were a dear friend, holding and protecting not only the every day eggs and cheese, salad makings and leftovers, but also our lovely wines, frozen potatoes and Bolognese sauces. May you enter the afterlife content with the frigid love you provided us. Rest in peace.
Yep, we lost our fridge. I had left for a conference, and MM came home the following day from a work trip to a freezer that no longer held any frozen items. It wasn’t long before the refrigerator above it also lost all of its chill. When I came home, we went shopping for a replacement (stainless steel to match our other appliances), and found one relatively easily at one of the big box stores nearby.
Unfortunately, the installation and delivery that we were promised failed – the delivery men they contract are unable to remove doors with complicated water dispensing systems, and since the doors to get into our house are small, there was no way the fridge was going to make it.
You can imagine my significant disappointment that a fridge had been brought all the way to my house, but couldn’t be brought in the door. The store received a call from me, and while I was able to hold my frustration in, I did end up getting a full refund for everything we’d spent.
After MM got home from his second work trip in two weeks (on a Friday), we hit a different appliance store, and found a fridge that was slightly more expensive, and they were able to get us on a delivery and installation date for that Monday. The three man team not only delivered the fridge, but measured every single pathway that they’d have to use to get our old fridge out and the new fridge in, removing any and all house doors that would be a problem.
They also immediately removed all three of the doors to the fridge to get it in the house, replaced them once inside, and attached the waterline, which was not on their work order to do.
So now, we have a brand new stainless steel french door fridge with a freezer drawer and water and ice dispenser in the door. And the coolest thing? Other than the fact that it works? The water dispenser does it automatically!!

Because we got it on a Monday, I really had to wait until the following weekend to fill it up and get to making things.
But you can be sure that I used that water dispenser every day until then!

Looks nice, when do we eat?
