Riviera Handbag

This bag pattern comes from Annie’s Catalog.  The pattern is pretty well written, though suggested modifications are mentioned AFTER the instructions regarding cutting the fabric.  The only thing this impacted for me was the length of the handles.  I typically like to put bags on my shoulder, and this is just short enough to make it a little uncomfortable.  Therefore, if you’re looking for the handles to be a bit longer, remember that before you start to cut!  Alternatively, you could figure out how to add a shoulder strap, removable or otherwise.  I leave it to you!

I’ve made 5 of these bags so far, and this will be my sixth.  P, my MIL, and her mother, G, asked if I would put another one together for G’s sister.  They’re giving me all creative license here, outside of the fact that G’s sister doesn’t like polka dots, but does like yellow.  So, here are the four fabric selections I’ve decided on:

Make sure you wash and iron the fabric before you start cutting things out!  I have a tendency to not follow my own advice, but this time around, I’ve done it.  🙂

The diamond pattern will be the main outside pocket.  The more solid of the greens will be the accent around that pocket.  The swirly yellow is the upper outside part of the bag, and the green swirly will be the handles and the bottom.  There’s going to be a lot of yellow on the outside, and a lot of green on the inside.

I really hope she likes green…  🙂

Onward to Part 2!
