Giant Fabric Bin

I was going to make this bin so that I could put it in the back of my car to hold things.  Things like cleaning wipes (to keep the newly cleaned interior clean – novel concept, right?), maybe a blanket, a pair of shoes and socks (just in case I break down and have to walk somewhere – doesn’t hurt to be prepared).

But then I found this fabric…

… and thought that maybe I’d have to change my mind.  It’s just such pretty fabric!

The tutorial here isn’t bad.  There’s not a huge amount of instruction, but there doesn’t really need to be.  You’re actually just sewing together a box.  No big deal.

I think I’ll have to think a bit more about how to sew up the sides so that the corners are a bit more… sharp.  But that’s for the next time I make something like this.

I might also figure out a way to put fabric handles on a box like this.

I didn’t do it, but I would highly suggest using some kind of thin, but stiff interfacing on the lining.  Something like SF101, maybe?  I’ll try that next time as well.

And yes, for now at least, it’s not going in the trunk of my car.  It’s HUGE, so it’s holding the board games that have been on the floor of our dining room for a couple weeks.  I doubt that will be it’s final location, but at least it’s being used for now.  đꙂ

And it’s so pretty!
