I sewed myself a shirt last weekend. I’m not putting a page together on it, mainly because I didn’t take pictures of the process, but also because I remembered how frustrating it is to make clothes. At least for me.
That being said, here’s the end result:

It’s not easy to tell the color in the picture… and really it’s not that easy to tell in person. The fabric bolt said that it was navy, and sometimes it does look like the pattern is in navy. Other times, it looks like a really dark purple.
That being said, I got it done in a day, and with a lot of frustration, like I mentioned. I don’t know if it’s only because clothes have to fit a body, or if the combination of the fabric with my machine was troublesome, or if I just need to get used to the stitch suggested by my machine for stretchy fabrics.
This maybe the last thing I make between now and our trip to Paris, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to be taking this with me on the trip!

I worked with stretchy fabric once, ONCE. After spending too much on fabric, I ended up throwing the dress away. Maybe that’s why I quilt now; can’t go wrong with cotton fabric…well, you can, but it’s not as frustrating as stretchy fabric.
I don’t mind stretchy fabric in general, but it seems like I have to fight my machine every time. It typically gets caught under the plate, and I have to either cut the fabric to get it out (since the thread is in a knot), or spend 20 minutes trying to carefully cut the thread/knot. I don’t know if I just need more experience, or if it’s really just how thin the fabric was…
