More Organization, and Roast Chicken!

This weekend was somewhat low key, since MM has to travel again.  We spent our whole weekend together, rethinking what one of the rooms in our house should look like in the future.

At some point, we’ll be turning the bedroom that holds all of our bookcases into more of a legit office for MM, and to do so, we’ll have to get rid of some of the bookcases.  We’re both heavy readers, but for the last few years, we’ve taken a hard right turn toward e-readers.  While we’re loathe to give up all of our physical books (there’s just something about how they smell, am I right?), it’s unnecessary to keep the ones that we’ve never gone back to, or those that don’t hold sentimental value.

After getting my lunches for this next week complete, and starting the Roast Chicken that I was making for my dinners while MM is away, I headed up to the room to start my own process of pulling out the books I no longer want, and decided to go a little nuts, inventorying all the books that are mine in that room.

I tapped into my love for spreadsheets, creating columns for the author’s last and first name, the title of the book, whether it was to leave the house, if it was on my list on goodreads.com, what it’s status there was (want to read, read, etc.), and if I wanted to purchase an electronic version.  Halfway through, my chicken was done:

Roast Complete

I put it on top of the oven to cool down, since I was just going to carve it and then put it in the fridge for leftovers.  Smelled heavenly, though.

Back up to the books!  MM joined my efforts, following behind me to remove the books that he didn’t want to keep, and re-shelving the rest.

Once we were done in that room, I kinda went a little crazier.  See, I already have an e-reader, and that device has a lot of books on it.  Wouldn’t it be a good idea to add those books to my list?  I could then keep track of the books that I have, whether or not I’ve read them or own them, or, or, or…

It turns out, I have a LOT of books.  And I haven’t even hit up the secret stash of Nora Roberts books that are in my office.  (They’re not actually secret, they’re on a small bookcase in the closet…)

To be fair, I’m giving away almost 60.  But… that still leaves me with over 300.  Just under half of them are electronic, but some of those are duplicates…

I might have a problem.  🙂
