Not going to lie – I love sweets. I try not to make too many, because I seldom have the willpower to eat the moderately. Still, when it’s the holiday season, I feel like trying something new that I can take to a family gathering, which kills two birds with one stone – I get to bring something fun, AND I’m not the only one eating. 🙂
Vermont Maple Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 c butter, softened
- 3/4 c sugar
- 3/4 c packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp maple flavoring (extract)
- 2 1/2 c all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 c white baking chips
- 1 c chopped pecans
Maple Glaze
- 1/3 c butter, cubed
- 1 3/4 c confectioners’ sugar
- 1/3 c maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp maple flavoring (extract)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and maple flavoring. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into creamed mixture. Stir in baking chips and pecans.
- Drop cookie dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Remove to wax paper lined wire racks to cool completely.
- For glaze, in a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Meanwhile, mix maple syrup and flavoring in a small bowl. Remove melted butter from heat. Alternate gradually whisking confectioners’ sugar and maple mixture until smooth.
- Drizzle over cookies; let glaze dry completely. Store between pieces of waxed paper in airtight containers.
This particular recipe I found in a Taste of Home magazine (September / October 2018 issue) in the fall. Which makes sense – usually things like maple flavoring and pumpkin spices are popular in that time. I didn’t have time prior to Thanksgiving, or I would have made them for the large family gathering. But I had them in the back of my mind, and when I was determining what I wanted to make for Christmas gatherings this year, these made the list.
Note – these turned out very sweet, which is to be expected, given the sugar and the white chocolate baking chips, in addition to the maple glaze that finishes the cookie. Those with nut allergies, or families with allergies, these cookies are not for you. Pecans are part of the ingredients list!

All in all, they were fun to make. A little too sweet for me (shocking, I know), but something different that I may decide to take to future gatherings.
