Kegger’s Review

I loved Super Troopers.  It’s not a movie I originally would have watched, but I was talked into watching it by MM a long, long time ago and it continues to be one of the movies that we decide to watch when we’re just wanting something ridiculous and mostly hilarious.

To be honest, it goes great with a drinking night.

So, because we knew that the odds of the sequel being anything but disappointing were quite low, we went into this viewing with a couple hefty drinks to partake throughout the film.

They went tried and true with the humor – things that worked in the first movie were repeated, to a certain extent in the second.  References to the first movie were a nice touch as well.  Unlike the first movie, which seemed to fall flat in the first act, this one kept the action and interest going throughout.  The villain was the right amount of ridiculous to match the movie, and I had just watched a different project that he was in, so I was primed to enjoy his methods in a silly movie.

All in all, not the worst movie to watch on a Friday after a long work week, provided you enter into it knowing that it’s going to be fairly slapstick and ridiculous.

It also helps to be a bit inebriated.  J

MM’s Review

I implemented my standard strategy for Broken Lizard movies: I drank heavily.

I really like Beerfest, and the first half of Super Troopers is great (the second half gets boring). I’d heard this movie was only okay, so even though I loved the concept, my expectations were low going in.

After a really weird opening dream sequence, the plot got moving pretty well. The setup and ideas were good, but the delivery was lacking. The Broken Lizard guys were hit and miss, and the new locals were subpar. I did love seeing Rob Lowe appear, even though his character wasn’t great.

When the jokes worked, they were good. Rob Lowe’s scene where he’s speedbagging an exposed penis might’ve been my favorite. No, I’m not making that up. Yes, it was great.

Beerfest and Super Troopers are in our normal comedy rotation, and while this movie wasn’t bad, it isn’t worthy either.
