Kegger’s Review:

I love Pixar.  I tend to adore their movies, and while I haven’t kept up with all of their sequels (Cars 2, I’m looking at you), I can watch Wall-E over and over, and Up made me ugly cry, while Toy Story and Incredibles gave me all the feels and laughs.

Starting to watch Incredibles 2, I knew there was a chance that it wouldn’t live up to the original.  It’s a sequel, after all.  (Though let it be said that I admit to liking things like Home Alone 2 and Ghostbusters 2, to the incredulity of MM.)  And still, I was relatively disappointed.  I had read that this movie repeated the previous one’s plot lines, and those reviews were not incorrect.

Big initial action sequence?  Check.

Family around the table? Check.

Lack of communication between the parents?  Check.

So, for the first hour, hour and twenty minutes (of a 2 HOUR KIDS MOVIE) was relatively boring.  Not only that, but I was curious as to how this was a kids movie.  It’s not just the length, it’s the dialog.  Yes, the message was absolutely clear – to adults.  But unless the kids watching this are relatively in the teen realm, or (and this is a stretch) a tween, there are no kids that would get it.

The best parts of the movie involved Jack-Jack.  Which, looking back, make all of the marketing around the Edna babysitting scenes we didn’t see make sense.

I laughed really, really hard when Jack-Jack was on the screen.

The second half of the movie was fun, and lifted this review a star.  We finally got into some action, used new characters and powers, and I was wrong with one of my guesses.  All in all, a good way to end the movie.  I just wish the first part of the movie held up.

MM’s Review:

Hey everybody, I just saw The Incredibles 1.5!

Would you like to go back in time and see The Incredibles have their grand adventure for the first time? You’re in luck! In about 10 minutes, we’ll roll back the clock to the world hating Supers again.

See, we need that to happen, so Bob and Helen can go back to arguing with each other about needing to be themselves vs needing to lie low. Wondering how that’s going to go now that Jack-Jack is also a Super? Fugeduhbowdid. Ain’t nobody told ‘em! His scenes are probably the highlight of the movie.

Wondering why these arguments would be rehashed with a family that just spent one movie pulling together? Fugeduhbowdid! Ain’t nobody remembering what happened a couple of days ago!

So yeah, we’ll just go ahead and watch the same movie over again. It might be a bit problematic since they use the exact same villain set up, but hey, you’re in too deep now. May as well gut it out.

Samuel L Jackson’s character is always entertaining, at least.
