A few weeks ago, MM and I did something new.
Well, new to us.
We decided to take our Saturday, and drive to a relatively nearby orchard to pick ourselves some apples! It’s something we’ve never done before, and to be honest, not something that we’d really ever been interested in.
But, after talking with a coworker friend of mine, I thought that maybe, just maybe, we could go do something different, out of the ordinary, out of our routine.
So, on a brisk Saturday afternoon, MM and I hopped in our car and drove just under 40 minutes from our house to experience something new. We had to break out the warmer clothing, for pretty much the first time of the season, and it was pretty windy. After getting a couple ½ peck bags, and determining which two types we were going to try (nothing as pedestrian as gala or granny smith for us!), we headed out to the rows of apple trees, just up a hill.
A nice lady walked us over to the first set of rows that contained the apples we were interested in, the one Adam chose, brought us over to one of the trees, and showed us how to lift and twist to gently remove the fruit from the tree. She let us try one, just to make sure we liked it (what’s the point of picking a bunch of fruit if you don’t like it?), and it was AMAZING. So crisp and sweet.
We filled one of the bags, and then got directed to another set of trees for our second choice, this time, mine. They let us try this type, too, which was awesome. This one was sweet, but had a bit of a tart taste. Reminded me a bit of a Pink Lady, but better. We filled that bag as well, and headed back down the hill to the store.
All told, we brought home around 10 lbs of apples, and shot through one bag in a little less than a week. MM has been using the type that I chose to put in his smoothies in the morning, and I’ve been going through the ones that he chose, one per day. To be fair, we both like the type that he chose better than the other, which he makes sure he reminds me about almost every day!
In addition to the apples, I brought home a couple acorn squash – not something I’d typically bring home, but I thought that I might as well try something else new.
Since then, I’ve tried four new recipes as well – two mains, a soup, and a bread. The two mains were well received. The other two… well, they aren’t as good. Unfortunately one of those two featured acorn squash. The other was an apple cinnamon bread, which tastes pretty good, but not great.
I’ll start working on posts for the two mains shortly – I’ve got pictures, of them both, but writing them up may take me a bit more time.
But I ask you this, dear readers… If I’m not a fan of the recipes I try, should I post them anyway? Should I only post the recipes that I like, or should I take the fact that others have different taste buds than me into consideration? 🙂

What apples did you both select? Post all the recipes. I bought and consumed my first spaghetti squash last week, and it was delishious. I typically don’t each squash but I wanted to try something new. Yum.
