Ham and Cheese en Français

Want to know how to settle a stomach after a long night of drinking French wine and eating rich French food? You fight fire with fire.

In the form of Croque Monsieurs! Having a seat at a cafe with water, Sprite, chips, and the very ooey, gooey French version of a ham and cheese sandwich, while the city walks around you… There’s nothing like it.

So of course, OF COURSE, we had to be prepared with Croque Monsieurs for our stay-cation! But these are more than just ham and cheese sandwiches – they have to have a ton of cheese, and yet somehow be crispy and tasty. And so, I found a recipe that sounded like fun. The only hiccup was the fact that it was for four sandwiches. Cutting a recipe in half isn’t all that difficult, until you’re trying to reduce half a tablespoon of butter to a quarter of a tablespoon. For some reason, the day after a half bottle of French wine means my division skills weren’t quite up to par. 🙂

Didn’t matter, though. Because it all came together and was so yummy we had these things an additional 3 times during our stay-cation. Each time we took them out to our deck with either lemonade, water, or more French wine, enjoyed the gorgeous, warm weather.

The only thing missing – potato chips! Next time, Gadget. Next time!
