I really enjoyed the first book that I’d read of Abby Jimenez months ago, called Part of Your World. It was a classic romance novel, with all the typical romance tropes that go along with a romance novel. I wrote about it here, and said that I’d absolutely flew through it because I knew what to expect.
Abby Jimenez has done it again! Yours Truly is another Book of the Month book that I selected for the month of May. I literally pulled it out of the box on Saturday, thinking that I’d set it aside, since I have so many other books to read. But then I had a bit of a hard day and decided to give my eyes a rest from all the electronics I surround myself with, and cracked open a hardback book.
And read it almost all in one sitting!
I had to stop a couple of times to feed myself and my household (homemade pasta with defrosted Bolognese), but otherwise, I flew through a 400 page book in a matter of hours. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done that, and it felt wonderful.
Yours Truly is absolutely a romance novel from start to finish. Classic enemies to friends to romantic love interests. The expected miscommunications brought on by overhearing only parts of a conversation or making assumptions. And it’s not a spoiler to say that there’s a Happily Ever After, right? RIGHT?!?!
In any case, I loved this book for a couple reasons – nice and comfortable, with likable primary and secondary characters, and an additional set of circumstances that I haven’t seen much of before. Also, any book that has me reading written communication between characters, a la Jane Austen, or You’ve Got Mail, and I’m in heaven.
I’ll leave you to read the book to find out what I’m talking about here, but there are characteristics of both of the characters that made them so much more relatable. It’s a book I’m keeping in my library, instead of donating to the nearby branch of the public library!
Side note – the author did a fantastic job prepping the reader for potential difficult subjects, and her Author’s Note at the end made me cry. It gave me even more insight into the characters, which just made me love the book more. I truly enjoyed this book!
