Disappointed

I really wanted to like this book, and yes, I gave it 3 out of five stars.  I don’t tend to mind too much when I’m reading a book with two timelines.  I like getting the insight from the previous events that lead to the current events.  But it just took so long for this book to actually have anything happen.

One positive – some of the quotes.  Such as:

  • “Pity fades with age, hate is lost and found, but guilt can last a lifetime.”
  • “Sometimes we have to let go of what we had in order to hold on to what we’ve got.”
  • “Love is as instinctive as breathing, but we don’t have to give it away.  Like our breath, we can hold onto it if we choose to.  But not forever.  Because then it starts to hurt.”

Just Haven’t Met You Yet

I knew what I was getting into.  After all, I’d read This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens, and it was good enough for me to add it to my “read this every holiday season” list of books.  Just a bit of fluff to end the year on a happy note.  So I knew that this book was going to be a classic romance novel, … Continue reading Just Haven’t Met You Yet

One Hundred Names

I love Cecelia Ahern.  This all started back in 2005 when I picked up one of her books during an international relocation, and found something funny and lovely – just what I needed to entertain myself in a country in which I didn’t understand the language.  Of course it was a love story – I’d be surprised if you expected anything else from me. Having … Continue reading One Hundred Names

Iffy

At the beginning of this book, I’m making some immediate assumptions of the main characters. Aimee has been following a path that I assume she’s created for herself, with the help of those she loves: her parents and her childhood sweetheart fiancé.  Her plans are tragically destroyed when her fiancé is killed in a boat accident, and further demolished when her parents decide to sell … Continue reading Iffy

Quick and Easy Reads

At some point in my past, I purchased this book on my Kindle.  I’m guessing it was because Amazon was running some kind of sale, or I was in a digital book binge type of mood.  As a result of the previous pretty bad books I’d read, I selected this one for a work trip – something simple and easy.  Bonus was that it’s set … Continue reading Quick and Easy Reads

Enraging

I’m pretty sure I purchased this book as a freebie through Amazon, at least 5 years ago.  Looking back, I’m glad I got it for free.  This book is awful.  Once again, I can’t go into how I really feel about this book without talking about the details, so spoilers ahead.

Yuck.

I picked up this book through Book of the Month, but it was long enough ago that I have no idea what month it was.  I’ve enjoyed the Peter Pan story, though I’ll be honest that I’ve really only seen the films/musicals.  Disney’s Peter Pan, Hook, Peter Pan the musical, Finding Neverland…  I own the book based on the play by J.M. Barrie, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it.  I thought this book would be an interesting take on the story, and having read things like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I was game for a different take.

Boy, was I WRONG.  Spoilers ahead, because I can’t talk about this book without going into details.

The Personal Librarian

I picked up this one from Book of the Month again, but it took months for me to get around to reading it.  Once I did, it took me another few days to get into it.  It’s not my normal style of book, and while I did look forward to understanding what it took for a black woman to exist in New York in the early 1900s, I struggled to get engaged.  Spoilers ahead.

Part of Your World

I have about 8 books from Book of the Month club in a bag next to my bed, waiting for me to find the motivation to get back to reading.  I’ve traveled a bit, and have therefore taken my e-reader (Kindle Paperwhite, if you’re curious) – MM has made suggestions of things to read, and I picked up a book that I’ll review later from … Continue reading Part of Your World

The Sweetest Remedy

So this was actually the first book that I read following the holidays.  I’ve had it for a while, again from Book of the Month, and one that I had gotten months ago, but didn’t read because I wanted to get through my traditional Christmas books.   The synopsis reads like many other books that I’ve enjoyed, and I thought might give me different perspective, given the fact that the author and the main character are so different than me.  Spoilers ahead!
